Specialty Crafted Patron Tequila Dinner at the Peppermill
RENO, Nev. (February 5, 2016) – Peppermill Reno hosts a specialty crafted Patrón Tequila dinner February 19 at 6:30 p.m. The dinner features five courses expertly paired with Peppermill’s exclusive Patrón Barrel Select Añejo Tequila for $95 per person, locals can enjoy the 20 percent locals discount off the ticket price. The five feature courses will include Patrón inspired cocktails with tequila specially made and aged for Peppermill Resorts and south of the border inspired foods.
This exclusive Patrón Barrel Select Añejo Tequila was inspired by the Peppermill Food and Beverage Director Daniel Duran’s trip to the Patron factory in Guadalajara, Mexico. Because of Duran’s hands-on-connection in the making of this aged tequila, he ensured the warmth and cheer of the local culture be effectively distinguished and infused throughout the entirety of this dinner.
“Patrón is unique in that they ensure the best agave for their product by paying local farmers 20% above market price for the agave used in their tequila,” Duran said.
The evening’s meal serves distinct and well-combined flavors such as the first course’s crispy braised leg of duck, made with pepper, cocoa, and nuts. This course is paired with a modern twist on a classic old fashioned recipe, deliciously complimenting the duck with notes of vanilla, oak, and ginger notes from the Patron Roca Reposado.
The full pairing menu can be seen below:
Amusement of the chef-
Caramelized fennel, Dungeness crab
Cocktail: La Granada
Long held as a symbol of royalty and healing in Latin American folk art, the sweet pomegranate, or La Granada, is balanced here by the black pepper and lime of the Patron Roca Silver. A bit of bubbly by way of Proseco adds a festive touch.
First Course-
Crispy braised leg of duck, pepper, cocoa, nuts
Cocktail: The Marquis of Altamira
Don Pedro, who is credited with first mass-producing Tequila in the 1600’s, never imagined his blue agave would someday generate the beautifully balanced Patron Roca Reposado. Aged in bourbon barrels, the tequila carries notes of oak, vanilla, ginger and caramel. The honeyed sweetness of house-made persimmon syrup balances the oak of the barrel in an upbeat twist on the classic Old Fashioned.
Second Course-
Cobia ceviche, finger lime, avocado, Hyde’s Herbs micro cilantro
Cocktail: At Frida’s Blue House
Our tribute to the margarita, a drink we like to imagine served to artists, authors and revolutionaries at artist Frida Kahlo’s La Casa Azul, begins with the more complex and agave forward Patron Roca Silver, complimented by fresh guava and grapefruit juices, finished with pure blue agave nectar and a touch of lime.
Third Course-
Braised Holley Family Farm lamb, ancho, cherry, bean-yucca hash
Cocktail: Buena Suerte
The lore around chilies is varied across Latin America but in some parts of Mexico, the chile is considered a cleanser of bad luck! We chose our very own Peppermill Select Patron to pair with an Ancho Chile infused vermouth and a bit of sherry to create this “good luck” cocktail… a stop by the casino floor might be in order!
Fourth Course-
Plantain curd, citrus biscuit, cashew nougatine
Cocktail: Café con Gabo
Nobel Laureate, Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Gabo to friends) often visited with fellow authors and artists over coffee. On one such occasion he was asked about the genre he was credited with, magical realism. He replied, “Life is not what one has lived, but what one remembers and how one chooses to tell it.” Our tribute to Gabo… Paton XO with notes of roasted coffee, vanilla and light tequila blended with house-made banana brown sugar and locally sourced Lighthouse cold brew coffee. Magical, indeed.
The featured Patrón was specially aged in both French and American Oak Barrels especially for the Peppermill. To enjoy a taste of the distinctive spirit, the Peppermill and Pancho & Willies, located in the Western Village Inn & Casino will serve the Tequila beginning in mid-January.
