May 2019's Top Things to do in Reno

Colder weather and indoor activities are so last season! Read on to see how you can spend some much needed time in the rays at the Dine the District Food Tour, Biggest Little Half Marathon, Reno River Festival, and other exciting events happening in Reno this month. 

Reno Ukulele Festival & Acoustic Faire

Back for its 11th year, the Reno Ukulele Festival brings together a diverse family of acoustic and electric instruments (and artists) to celebrate the growing popularity of the diminutive instrument. On May 1-4, enjoy workshops, concerts, open-mic performances, organized jam sessions, vendor marketplace, and special daytime entertainment.  

Dine the District Food Tour

Are you looking to broaden your horizons when it comes to Reno’s culinary offerings? On May 4, the Dine the District Food Tour brings together the best restaurants and eateries within walking distance from each other so that your inner Foodie can feast. 

IRC Endurofest

The nation’s top motorcycle Enduro athletes battle for the AMA Nevada State Championship at Wild West Motorsports Park. These riders will be put to the test with insane man-made obstacles and giant boulder rock gardens. You don’t want to miss out on this intense ride happening on May 4. 

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and Margarita Contest

On May 4-5, join in on the festivities at Northern Nevada’s largest Hispanic heritage celebration. Activities are fun for all ages and include live entertainment presented by popular bands from Mexico, Latin musicians and dancers, and Mexican dancing horse performances. More than 100 vendors will offer specialty items, Mexican cuisine, and other food varieties. 

Biggest Little Half Marathon

Run through some of the most beautiful and iconic spots in the Biggest Little City on May 5. Start your engines under the historic Reno Arch and soak in views of incredible parks, communities, and snow-capped mountains. Feel endorphins from not only running, but knowing that proceeds benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. 

Reno River Festival

Kick start summer 2019 the right way at the Reno River Festival on May 11-12! The Adventure Park in the heart of downtown Reno offers kid-friendly rides, bounce houses, and games, as well as a thrilling zip line over the Truckee River and a Mega Rock Wall. If your style is more laid back, enjoy live music and a refreshing beverage at the Craft Beer and Summer Wine Villages. One event not to be missed is the Reno River Roll, which is a 7-mile bike ride led by a live, mobile band. 

Mother’s Day Dining

Celebrate Mother’s Day with an unforgettable dining experience at Peppermill Resort Spa and Casino. On May 12, Biscotti’s and Island Buffet will feature exclusive menus to celebrate your loved one. Enjoy chilled prosecco served tableside at Brunch Toscana at Biscotti’s and a champagne brunch at Island Buffet. 

Opening Night of Food Truck Fridays

Alert the foodies! Our favorite food truck event is back in full swing on May 17. Dine on up to 35 rotating gourmet food, craft desserts, beer, wine, and mixed drink vendors all lined up at Idlewild Park. Aloha Shack, Tarzan’s Tacos, St. Lawrence Pizza Co., Waffle Wagon, and Zucker Donuts are just a few to name on the opening night’s lineup. Enjoy live music from New Wave Crave and hang tight at the rock climbing wall. 

Strange Brew Festival

On May 18, hops your way to Brewer’s Cabinet to challenge your taste buds. The Strange Brew Festival presents truly unique and exclusive beers from local breweries for adventurous beer connoisseurs to try. In addition to the brewskis, enjoy live music and tasty barbecue. 

Northern Nevada Celtic Celebration

On May 18-19, make your way to Bartley Ranch Regional Park for the 28th Annual Northern Nevada Celtic Celebration. Immerse yourself in this cultural experience rooted in the seven Celtic Nations. Festival goers can enjoy pipe band competitions, Scottish and Irish dancers, Highland games, Celtic critters, history demonstrations, and vendors. 

Chili on the Comstock

This two-day festival brings together 30 of the best chili cooks in the west to compete for your vote! On May 18-19, taste and decide which chili recipe deserves a spot in the International Chili Society World Finals. Along with delicious chili, visitors can enjoy other snacks, family-friendly activities, and Craft Beer Tours. 

Menopause the Musical

Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts wants you to join their sisterhood on May 18-19! Menopause the Musical is a hilarious parody that delves into the world of hot flashes, night sweats, not enough sex, too much sex, and more. Celebrate women and “The Change” while enjoying classic tunes from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. 

Cuisine, Corks & Crafts Festival

This foodie-forward, open-to-the-public festival is the perfect way to spend Memorial Day Weekend. On the event’s lineup: Celebrity Chef Showcase, Battle Born Best Chef Competition, and a Sunday Brunch Buffet. Enjoy the Wine & Spirits Walk, featuring themed food and beverage tasting booths, Saturday, Sunday, or both days! Head over to the Nugget Casino Resort on May 25-26. 

Made in Tahoe Festival

If you love all things local, we will see you at the Made in Tahoe Festival on May 25-26! Event goers can expect more than 100 local artisans, businesses, chefs, organizations, and entertainers. Enjoy a variety of food and beer, as well as FREE admission. 

Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure

The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey takes runners on a 178-mile loop starting at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno, all the way to Lake Tahoe, and back to Reno. On May 31, teams of six to 12 embark on this trek showcasing the beauty of the Reno-Tahoe region. If you’re not a competitive runner, there are plenty of fun competitions to keep you motivated. Runners can compete for best team name, best custom made shirts, and best decorated team vehicle.
